From The chairperson’s Desk

I have come to know from personal experiences that my early experiences of interacting with children from underprivileged backgrounds made me realise how much potential they have. At the same time, it also made me aware of the challenges they face due to the environment they live in.

Our work with Chanakya Jan Utthan Foundation over the past two decades or so has taught me that apart from some monetary help, these children need constant encouragement and motivation, counselling and moral support. Our job is not just to support them but to make them believe in themselves and help them build self-confidence, which is the most important tool for success. Once we manage to give them this most important asset, the sky is truly the limit.

Soon after I started working with the women, I realised what amazing qualities most of them have. They are talented, patient, multi-tasking and have innate inner strength and courage. They also have many challenges in their lives.

Our role at Chanakya Jan Utthan Foundation is to help them realise their potential and nurture what they already have. We see them as emerging and developing leaders and empowered women.

This belief in the skills and abilities of the people we work with has been at the core of all our programmes. We have seen that this approach can lead to dramatic changes.

All our students have performed well in their studies, a large number of women have found a good job in government service, some have enrolled in professional courses, some have got jobs in leading companies. And all the women have stable and good incomes. Some are almost self-sufficient, others contribute substantially to their family income.

During the second decade of Chanakya Jan Utthan Foundation, I expanded from working only in urban settings to rural India as well. After an initial survey to understand the needs of this section of society, I decided to focus on education, along with providing good employment to those in need by supporting the setting up of a variety of skill development training institutes.

I could not have done what I did, could not have gone down this path without the consistent and systematic efforts of my team.

The work I do, and the smile on the faces of the people I work with is my greatest reward; it gives me and all the others immense satisfaction.

And it will continue to motivate us in our work in the years to come.

We are still very young and our journey has just begun. This journey needs the continued support of me and my team.
